Epic Gaming Stream Raises £1,200 for Lifelites
Dan Merry, an enthusiastic amateur gamer known as DMezza, recently completed a marathon gaming stream that raised an incredible £1,200 for Lifelites. The 24-hour event turned into an epic 36-hour journey, thanks to the generosity of his supporters.
Dan, who heard of Lifelites only in October 2024, was instantly inspired by the charity’s mission to bring the magic of technology to children and young people with life-limiting conditions in hospices. Recognising a connection between his love of gaming and the joy that Lifelites brings to children, Dan decided to use his skills to make a difference.
To maximise donations, Dan set up a JustGiving page for direct contributions and pledged to donate all subscriptions earned during his stream. He also added an exciting twist: for every new subscription to his twitch channel, he extended his gaming session by an additional 5 minutes. This commitment pushed his gaming marathon from the initial 24 hours to an astonishing 36 hours!
Streaming Call of Duty, Dan’s event attracted a supportive community of friends and strangers alike. Viewers joined his games, kept him company in the chat, and offered words of encouragement as he powered through the long hours. Their collective enthusiasm created a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, with every donation serving as a reminder of the impact their efforts would have on children supported by Lifelites.
Reflecting on the event, Dan said: “When I learned about Lifelites and how they use technology to bring happiness to children in hospices, I knew I had to help. Gaming has been such a big part of my life – I think I was about 7 years old when I held my very first controller – and this was a way to share that passion for a good cause. The stream was an unforgettable experience. Seeing so many people come together in support was truly amazing. I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished together and am already brainstorming ideas for my next challenge!”
Lifelites is incredibly grateful for Dan’s dedication and the generosity of his supporters. The £1,200 raised will go a long way toward providing life-changing technology to children and families who need it most.
