The Remington Club’s Inspiring Support for Lifelites

The Remington Club, a cornerstone of community generosity, has long supported both local and national charities. While members have raised funds for notable causes, their connection with Lifelites stands out as truly inspiring.

It all began when club member Alan Burnip, a Freemason of over 20 years, discovered Lifelites through Freemasonry Today magazine. Struck by its mission to support children’s hospices with assistive and sensory equipment in such a unique way, Alan said Lifelites “ticked all the boxes for me”.

Alan introduced the charity during a busy Saturday night at the Club and initially, only one person had heard of Lifelites, but Alan’s passion and a call to action sparked an incredible response. By the following week, members were eager to help, and Lifelites was chosen as the club’s annual charity.

Extraordinary Fundraising Efforts

Over those next six months, The Remington Club raised an impressive £5,125 for Lifelites through events like a skydive, BBQs, raffles, auctions, and even a simple hallway bookcase where readers donated in exchange for books.

Members also had the chance to see the impact first-hand when they attended a Lifelites equipment launch at Andy’s Place, a children’s hospice in Grimsby. Watching children use the technology to create joyful memories with their families left a lasting impression and strengthened the club’s commitment to the cause.

Ongoing Commitment

Although the club now supports multiple charities, Lifelites remains close to its heart, with a recent £4,000 donation reflecting members’ continued dedication. This generosity often comes from individual initiatives such as sponsored head shaves, Leanne’s skydive, bake sales and Sober October. Donna, Alan’s wife, raises £50 each week through a football card raffle, while the refurbished bookcase continues to quietly generate significant contributions.

A Legacy of Compassion

Beyond fundraising, Alan and Donna have represented Lifelites at events, including a Christmas gathering at the Fenland Daylight Lodge in Lincolnshire, where they delivered a presentation about the charity. That single event led to a £500 donation from the Lodge and an additional £100 personal gift.

For The Remington Club, supporting Lifelites is personal and profound. “Watching children in hospices using this amazing equipment, having fun, making memories with their parents, sometimes in the limited time they have, is incredibly moving,” Alan shared. “It could be any one of our families. Knowing it’s not makes us more determined to help those who aren’t so fortunate.”

The Remington Club continues to embody the power of community, proving that compassion and commitment can truly make a difference.
