Rick Wakeman Visits EACH Hospice

On Thursday, 1st February, Lifelites had the honour of joining music legend Rick Wakeman at EACH Treehouse hospice in Ipswich for a band practice music therapy session with a Scottish theme, engaging children and families in an interactive musical experience.

Rick, world renowned for his keyboard prowess as a member of Yes and as a solo artist, has a remarkable career spanning over five decades, releasing more than 90 solo albums across various genres.

His induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame highlights his significant contribution to music and his influence on musicians around the world. Recently announcing his farewell solo tour, the Lifelites team were thrilled to see him perform an incredible live set in London in February, which included a full rendition of his number one album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Rick has continued to support Lifelites as a patron for many years and has been the driving force behind our annual Christmas appeal since 2015, raising tens of thousands of pounds to help children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Rick commented: “Lifelites was created within Freemasonry and has been taken to heart by Freemasons up and down the country. As a proud Freemason myself, it’s an honour to be Patron and champion this unique charity within the Masonic community and beyond.”

During the session, Rick got to meet some of the children and families we support, as well as trying out our innovative Soundbeam technology, which enables children with complex life-limiting conditions to make music and sounds through movement. It was an amazing opportunity to combine his passion for music and support for the charity.

“The one thing about music: it enters your life and becomes a major part of it. It has been my life and seeing this technology that allows children of all abilities to make music is amazing.” Rick continued.

At Lifelites, our dedication to empower the lives of children with life-limiting conditions through technology and music therapy is unwavering. Rick’s support emphasises the transformative impact of assistive technology, helping children and their families create lasting memories.
